Meet Jake Bruce!

A local 18-year-old entrepreneur, recent high school graduate, and future Babson College

By Brenda Diaz July 27, 2023

Jake is the owner of Donut NV, a new donut food truck in the Metrowest area. He graduated

from high school last month with the goal to pay for his college education through his new

endeavor. He offers excellent advice and is an example of how hard work and determination are a

foundation for success for children and young adults interested in entrepreneurship. He is

starting an undergraduate program at Babson College in the fall of 2024 and opens his

franchise this summer.

We had the great pleasure of interviewing him and talking about his new business, future

aspirations, inspirations, and favorite donuts!

What is Donut NV?

DonutNV is a fun, interactive mobile food experience. They make hot mini donuts while

customers watch and pair them with delicious freshly squeezed lemonade available in seven

refreshing flavors.

How did you decide to start Donut NV?

He loves donuts! He always has wanted to start his own business and loves donuts! He decided

upon a mobile franchise to maintain flexibility and offer his business countless opportunities.

What areas do you service?

This location will serve the greater MetroWest area, including local areas such as Natick,

Waltham, Wellesley, Needham, Newton, and Weston.

What types of events do you host?

He travels anywhere in the MetroWest area, catering, corporate appreciation events, weddings,

festivals, farmer’s markets, birthday parties, and any event desiring a sweet treat and tasty

lemonade.

How long have you wanted your own business?

He has had an entrepreneurial spirit since childhood. He has been a cub scout since he was 5

years old. Boy Scouts have a goal to sell bags of popcorn. As a Boy Scout, he was able to sell

over $7,000 of popcorn for several years and was regularly named a top seller. He sold the

popcorn all on his own!

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Jake said his dad has been his biggest inspiration. From an early age, he admired his father’s

work ethic and watched him help others start their businesses as a franchise consultant.

What are your favorite donuts?

Although he loves them all, his favorites include Fruity Pebbles, Oreo, cinnamon sugar, and the

classic powdered sugar.

What advice would you give to children and young people?

“Do what makes you happy. Do what you are passionate about, not what society tells you to do”.
