14 Questions to Get to Know Yourself Better and Your Teen

By Brenda Diaz March 25, 2021

Last week I took an enneagram test, and while most of it was spot-on, I was weary on some of it. However, it was an opportunity to look inward and shine light on some blind spots. Below are 14 questions to ask yourself and get to know yourself a bit more-- and if you have a teenager, ask them some of the questions... I learned interesting things about my sixteen year old.

  1. What activities do I engage in to distract myself from my challenges? Understanding how you distract yourself allows you to realize what you are avoiding.

  1. What would I tell my younger self? Pretend you have a time machine, and can give yourself future advice.

  2. At what time of day can I focus the most easily? Are you an early bird or night owl? What time of day do you thrive? What do you do during that time?

  3. At what time of day am I the most creative? When are you best at creating? How can you use that information?

  4. What are 10 words that accurately describe you? This requires honesty, what words describe you?

  5. What are the 10 words that you wish described you? Now, you can list the 10 words you wish were true about you.

  6. What am I currently tolerating in my life? Make a list... Is it a terrible boss? Bad corporate culture? Unreliable vehicle? Twenty extra pounds? Debt? What do you wish was out of your life.

  7. What do I believe is the meaning of life? Are you living your life accordingly?

  8. If I had to drop one person from my life, who would it be? Name the one person you would eliminate.. Why that person? Why are they still part of your life?

  9. What would be the perfect day for me? Describe your perfect day.

  10. Whom do I most respect? Why? What are their traits? Do you have these traits? How would your life change if you had these traits.

  11. What would I do if I were less afraid? Fear is limiting.  Most people believe they have conquered their fears, when in reality they’ve found ways to avoid them.

  12. What is my greatest weakness? No one is perfect. Weaknesses are part of life. What is yours and how is it impacting your life? Is there anything you can do about it?

  13. What is my greatest strength? How can I use my greatest strength to my best advantage?

There is great power in knowing who you are, but the real power is action based on knowledge.
