There is no doubt the holidays will also join the long list of things being different this year. Trying to maintain a sense of jovial holiday cheer can be especially taxing. However, with kids we should try to maintain as many holiday staples as possible. Below are just a few ideas to maintain some holiday traditions while staying safe.
- Safe Santa Pics- Natick Mall has socially distanced Santa packages. Online booking option, please call ahead for details. Shopping Mall in Natick, MA | Natick Mall
- Shops at Chestnut Hill- Socially distanced Santa packages. For reservations: The Shops at Chestnut Santa Photo (splashthat.com)
- Video Call with Santa- Santa’s Club offers video packages for children to connect with Santa live. Santa's Club | Virtual Santa Visits & Live Video Visits with Santa Claus
With the doom of the pandemic in March, our Elves made a comeback…and are still around causing havoc in our home. I felt some holiday hope would pull us through. This year we added extra cheer.
- Decorations 2.0 We all have mini Christmas trees in our bedrooms.
- We purchased an artificial tree to decorate extra early this year.
- Since we are not hosting a big family dinner, we decided to make special holiday dishes throughout the month.
- Enjoy holiday movie nights
- Sing the night away with holiday karaoke
- Mail special thank you notes to your loved ones
- Drive around local neighborhoods and check out the decorated homes and lights.
- Wear a festive face mask
While the holidays can be wonderful for some, they can be lonely for many. Our family typically seeks volunteer opportunities. However, this year we are considering other options:
- Contact local nursing home and ask to send notes to their residents.
- Make a donation to your favorite charity or shelter
- Virtual volunteer opportunities: visit volunteermatch.org, feedingamerica.org, and unitedway.org.
Stay safe,
Brenda
