Fall is a great time to visit Story Land - the lines are shorter, the weather is cooler, and you may get to see some magnificent foliage in the White Mountains!
Here are some helpful tips while planning your trip!
- Buy your tickets online and arrive early! The park opens at 9:30am, we arrived at 9:15 with our tickets in our hands, and got into a separate line for ticket holders. At 9:20 am, the gates opened, and all the guests with tickets entered quickly.
- Take advantage of the "final three, next day free" promotion. You can enter the park within the last three hours of the day (after 2pm in September & October), and you will receive a free ticket to return to the park another day the same season (we went the following day). This not only gave us a few more hours in the park, but allowed us to scope out the park the first day so that we hit the ground running the next day!
- Do the Antique Cars first! The Antique Car ride is really popular. My kids loved it because they got to "drive" a car around a track, under a tunnel and through the scenery. The line for this ride is usually the longest in the park, so head there first before the line gets long.
- Pack a lunch, snacks, and bring a stroller if you think your kids will get tired! We did lots of walking, so a stroller would come in handy if you think your kids will tire out. Story Land does rent strollers if you can't fit yours in your car. There's also plenty of places to buy all different kinds of food, snacks, and drinks if you don't feel like packing a lunch.
- Don't worry about it being too hot! We went on a 90F day. I was worried we would all melt in the hot sun, but to my surprise, there's lots of shade in the park. The waiting areas for the rides are covered, and there are these awesome mist tents set up to cool off. Not to mention that some of our favorite rides are water rides where you get soaked AND there is a great splash park to play and cool off!
- All the rides are clearly marked as to height requirements. Most of the rides require your child to be 48" tall to ride alone, while shorter children must ride with an adult. Some rides do restrict the minimum height to ride at 36". They are all clearly marked before you wait in line.
- There's a separate section for younger kids called Storybook Village where nursery rhymes come to life with the Old Woman who Lives in a Shoe (she gives out the commemorative stickers), the talking tree, a playground, sand box, animals and more! My kids love to explore this area!
- If you have older kids (you must be 42" to ride with an adult, 48" to ride alone), be sure to check out the new Roar-o-Saurus Roller Coaster. It is amazing - an old-fashioned style wood roller coaster with HUGE drops!
- When you're all tired and need a rest, hop on the train that rides all around the park. It's a great way to rest your feet while seeing the whole park and enjoying the ride!
- Take lots of photos so your kids can relive the fun they had on your trip! My kids LOVE looking at all the photos I took and talking about their favorite rides!
We all had a wonderful day at Story Land, and the kids are already asking when we can go back!
